Are you facing difficulties writing your online dating profile? It can be frustrating to know what information to provide, what information to save, and how to intrigue that prospective suitor. These nine tips can help set you on the path to a successful dating profile.

When you begin writing your profile, stay positive. A happy soul is guaranteed to attract more people than a negative-nelly. Present yourself in a positive light, focus on your interests, and try to be romantic. Avoid talking about failed relationships, the difficulties of dating, or any of the negative aspects of love. We’ve all been through hard times and likely want to find someone who can bring some sunshine into our lives, instead of more darkness. So, keep it light, keep it happy, and you’ll charm the right people.

Lying about yourself will not do you any favors in the long run. Be honest about who you are, what you like, and what you do. Naturally, we all want to be accepted and the internet makes it easy to portray yourself in a way that may be more interesting. However, lying about your embellished skills will only put you in an awkward situation when you must explain yourself later.

Honesty is one of the highest sought out qualities in a partner. Displaying who you truly are will also make you more relatable. Those little imperfections about yourself may be endearing to others. Further, early lying sets you on a path of dishonesty that will only lead to trust issues in the future.

Spell Check

Using poor grammar will likely make some people turn away from you. To begin with, a lack of spell check shows you didn’t put much effort into the details. Secondly, your profile acts as your first impression to a possible love interest. If your page is filled with spelling and grammar issues, they will probably not view you as an intelligent individual. Even if you’re a genius, they’re not going to believe you with a thousand spelling errors. So, be sure to proofread after you finish your write up.

Be approachable

While leaving some mystery about yourself can be a good thing, you don’t want to appear unapproachable. Intimidation will only make people hesitant to contact you. Be open about your true self, try to present a light tone, and don’t be afraid to be humorous. Never try to make yourself appear arrogant or braggadocios. This can easily put someone off and swipe away.

Your Photo

Don’t be afraid to show yourself in your picture. Avoid group photos as this makes it hard to distinguish who you are. Try not to add too many props into your photo as well. This includes sunglasses, pets, or anything distracting from yourself. You want to present yourself with confidence. It’s also important to stay current with your photo; aim for something within the last year. If the date doesn’t go well, you can put your mind at ease knowing it wasn’t because of your appearance.

Your Username

The username you choose says a lot about who you are. Avoid immature logins that may give individuals the wrong impression. Aim for something clever that showcases your sense of humor and interests. There are several examples available online to help you generate your own username or to provide you with ideas.

Character Over Characteristics

It’s good to know what you want but try to focus on characters rather than characteristics. When you talk about what you’re looking for, think of your values. Avoid adding specifics to appearance, education, and hobbies. Focusing on characteristics may make you seem shallow while focusing on character will up your chances of finding someone similar. If fitness is something essential in your life, place a focus on the health and wellness aspects of being active not body image.

Fill Everything Out

Try not to leave any empty fields on your dating profile. The more you put into something, the more results you are likely to see. So, if you have the option to choose ten photos, try to find ten classy photos you can display. Add an insightful description that showcases who you are and what you’re looking for. Take the time to provide as much about yourself as you can and you’ll attract more people.

Don’t expect results immediately, have patience. If you’re looking for someone to spend your life with ten years from now, it’s going to take time. Don’t worry about rushing the situation or emphasizing an immediate need for sex. This type of behavior will leave you frustrated and appearing desperate. Take your time, get to know the person, and hope for the best. Love is a seed that needs to be planted and given time to grow.
