It’s no secret that America has a little bit of a problem with misogyny. Patriarchal structures favor masculinity at many levels. And despite the fact that the gay community almost entirely consists of men, misogyny still manages to rear its ugly head. Men who exhibit what are considered typically feminine characteristics often feel marginalized even within the gay community. What’s wrong boys, is your masculinity so fragile that you’ve got to take it out on the fems? smh We’ve all seen the plentiful number of dating app bios that discriminate against non-straight-acting men. And survey results have depressingly indicated that an overwhelming number of gay men prefer masculine men. Is that just the way the cookie crumbles, or are social stigmas as play? You guessed it--it's the latter. We live in a culture that emphasizes the masculine over the feminine--a culture where to feminize is a man is considered an insult. We need to flip the script, and cut the patriarchy at its roots. Femboys are beautiful and sexy and cool and strong. Represent feminine men, both gay and straight, in TV shows and movies. Elect non-straight-performing men to office. And if personally are a fem, then flaunt it girl! Once we establish a culture of acceptance around male femininity, more femboys can feel comfortable being themselves, are more guys who are into femboys will feel more comfortable bringing a femboy home to meet the parents. It's a win-win for everyone. So if you’re a “masc-for-masc” guy, I encourage you to keep an open mind. The spectrum of gender identity and expression is vast and bears fruits of many flavors. Don’t be afraid to take a walk on the fem side, you just might like it. ;)
