Leather, rubber, spikes, nipple clamps… Fetish lovers are like no other. They are a special tribe, and they have their own entertaining events and conventions. You know, like Comic-Con, only for kinksters. If you’ve never attended such an event, but you’re tempted to go, maybe you’re curious to know what to expect, and which the best and most famous fetish festivals worldwide are.

Prêt-à-porter

The first thing a “virgin” who is to attend their first kink event should know is that there is no dress code enforced. Yet, one is expected to stick to the kink/BDSM style. After all, it will be awkward if you show up wearing jeans, a plain T-shirt, and sneakers. If you are not sure what to wear, or your imagination fails you, you can just copy the look of our favorite gay rock musician, Rob Halford.

Getting ready for the ball

Of all the events at a fetish festival, the least intimidating ones, are the “munches.” They are held in a bar or a café and do not involve any kinky stuff. Munches are meant for kinksters who don’t feel comfortable being whipped or pinched, or electroshocked in public but like getting together with like-minded people, having a bite, and talking about common interests. The BDSM conferences are usually weekend-long. You may think that they are not fun at all, but they are looked forward to by many dedicated kinksters all year long because they are everything but boring. The attendees will put on their best kinky outfits and attend classes about whatever they fancy. Sex is also on the agenda. The fetish balls are held at a traditional nightclub. Don’t expect anything extreme and crazy, though. There will be onstage performances, dancing, and loud music. But nothing unusual other than that is taking place.

The biggest fetish events out there

Suppose you’re ready to hit the BSDM scene, and you currently reside in the US. In that case, the good news is that the most significant fetish event in the world, the cherry on the top of the kinky cake, is Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. This largest leather event is attended by 250, 000 people from around the world. This year, the fair starts on September, 25th. There will be no restrictions concerning participants’ appearance, so you’d better be prepared to witness literally everything - from giant babies to completely naked people. People know Oktoberfest in Munich. But mad-keen kinksters know better because they have at least once in their life attended the infamous German Fetish Ball in Berlin. This annual fair has been running since 2003 and is usually held for three days over the weekend of Pentecost. After being canceled in 2020 and 2021, this year, the Ball made a full-scale return. If you have missed it, you can join next year, from May, 17th to May, 21st. Bring your best maniac latex suit! From sexy to insanely twisted, Japan Fetish Ball has it all. I realize Tokyo might be a challenging flying destination, but let me tempt you by saying that at this festival, you might discover fetishes you haven’t even heard of! If you are into really weird kink, Japan is your place because, believe it or not, there is no such thing as an unacceptable kink for those people. I mean, you can make out with a real, or an anime boy in virtual reality, or if that's not kinky enough, even fuck a squeaky balloon torso! The dates for 2023 haven’t been announced yet, so, if you’re interested in attending, keep yourself updated. Kinky Copenhagen is an event where you can explore the sex of your dreams while wearing a costume that makes you happy, be it Cinderella, or the Hostel Sadist. What will leave you gasping are the abundance of shocking piercings, body modifications and implants. The fair offers the perfect playground for those who are interested in role-playing. As a resident of the city myself, I would not recommend coming alone. Bring a friend, or a lover. Or both.

London Fetish Weekend

This is probably the largest fair for men into fetish. Each night takes place at a different venue and is dedicated to a different fetish. So, there is something for everyone, whether it is bondage, piercing, spanking, electro play, dress-up…The organizers take safety seriously, and that’s why they have introduced special entry requirements for some of the clubs where only experienced kinksters are allowed. No newbies, sorry.
