For much of history, a shroud of ignorance has prevented the dissemination of the gay birds & bees. Us gays are often forced to discover the machinations of homosexual intercourse for ourselves. Or if we’re lucky, we'll be taught by a wise mentor. ;) Today we'll save you all that trouble and go over five of the most common myths about gay sex that we used to believe... until we wised up.
1. Anal is end-all-be-all of gay sex
This myth is especially pervasive among those who learned about homosexuality from watching porn. There’s often an assumption among guys that all other forms of sex are merely foreplay until we can get to the inevitable ass-pounding. Once you stop trying to recreate porno scenes in the bedroom, you can discover the distinct pleasures of a wide array of sexual styles.
2. Anal can happen spontaneously
Sometimes we think of sex as a magical, mysterious act, but veteran bottoms know that there’s a man behind the curtain working his ass off to make sure the show goes on without a hitch. Cleaning, douching, bleaching, trimming, stretching--all these things require careful preparation and it can sometimes be unwieldy to go for spontaneous anal.
3. Everyone is hyper-sexual and ready to fuck
Although there is certainly some truth to this myth, and the availability of hook-up apps seem to enforce it, it is in fact not true that all gay men are horny and ready to fuck at a moment’s notice. In fact, some guys prefer getting to know each other before they bone! Crazy, right?
4. Free-love is the norm
Similar to number three, this gay myth seems especially popular among straight people. Polyamory and open relationships are undoubtedly more common among gays. But if you assume that your boyfriend will automatically be cool with you screwing other guys, then you’re definitely living in a myth
5. We’re all obsessed with toys
Finally, much of the non-gay world seems to think that gay men are disproportionately obsessed with sex toys. Perhaps they were confusing us with our friends in the lesbian community (avowed toy-lovers). Luckily every gay man is equipped with his own fun, unique toy. What more could we need?
