As the seasons begin to shift and our chances to don our short shorts and crop tops come to an end, we, the gays of America, retreat indoors to stay cozy and keep the party going. However, if you’re planning on skipping your weekly stop at your local queer watering hole, you might be looking for other ways to enjoy your evening.
If you’re vibing more with the couch, gray sweatpants, and wine type of night, then here are what we recommend for living your best gay streaming life!
Red, White, & Royal Blue
Based on a bestselling book, this heartwarming tale of semi-forbidden love is just what the country needs. Remember all those times we watched movies about star-crossed lovers as a kid, wishing we’d see ones that we could relate to someday? This movie is the antidote to all those times. The president’s son falls in love with a prince, and just like that, we’re all tuned in.
The film has received rave reviews from critics and movie-goers (from home) alike. And Uma Thurman as POTUS is the icing on the cake.
The Morning Show, Season 3
Though the season only just kicked off, it’s already exploring uncharted territory. Reese Witherspoon’s Bradley Jackson is the lesbian character we always needed. Back in season one, we definitely knew right away that Jackson was a member of the family, but watching her on-screen chemistry with Julianna Margulies’ character brings tears to our eyes.
Though the show as a whole isn’t centered around LGBTQI+ life, it never shies away from the difficult topics and conversations. And seeing Jennifer Aniston in any role that showcases her in a snappy, HBIC type of role is our cup of piping-hot tea.
Of an Age
Sometimes, it’s the shortest of encounters that leave the most lasting marks upon us. In the film Of an Age, we explore how layered, complex, and passionate these types of affairs can be.
Set mostly in 1999, the movie follows two men who, over the course of twenty-four hours, experience one of the most intense romances of their lives. They carry the memories of this with them for years and one day, some time later, they reunite. Being able to relive the supposed “glory days” of young, innocent love, they remember what drew them together, despite what now pushes them apart. We dare you to get to the abrupt ending with a dry eye.
Bottoms
Lesbians starting a fight club in order to hook up with cheerleaders they think are hot…need we say any more?
Though upon first glance, you might think this title to be about the boys, think again! This raunchy teen comedy explores, and reminds us of, the awkward years of adolescence when we were just trying to be ourselves and simultaneously do what everyone else was doing. Though this movie takes a wild and hilariously dark approach, there are details we all can relate to laced somewhere within.
…And Just Like That, Season 2
It’s likely you may have decided to skip this season after the chaotic mess that was season one back in 2022. However, we’re happy to tell you that the series seems to have learned from a few of their past mistakes. Carrie Bradshaw and the crew have paved the way for something that feels less forced and a little healthier for the girls we’ve grown to love.
With plenty of characters in the LGBTQI+ community, the series never backs down from tackling topics such as losing ass virginity, non-binary relationships, and what it means to find yourself regardless of age. Like a fine wine, or a cosmopolitan, our favorite girls in our favorite city never fail to light up the screen.
