Pride Month is here and with everyone still easing back into the idea of being less than six feet from one another sans masks, it is going to still look a little different than it has in years past. Of course, there are some places where parades and festivals are happening but for the most part, celebrating in an alternative way is going to kick just as much as in 2021! So with no further ado, here are a myriad of ways you can celebrate Pride this year!

Virtual Pride Events

Many major cities are opting to go virtual, again, and the plus side to that is that you can really tailor the event to fit your needs. Vaccinations have made it possible for us to get together with our loved ones once again, which is just how you can turn a virtual Pride into an event - right at home! Get your guest list ready, buy all the types of food you want, and do not forget some themed cocktails. Then once everyone is there, turn that virtual event on and make memories from the comfort of your home.

Drag Shows

Like all live acts, Drag Performers were thrown a major curveball in 2020 with bars and clubs closing up. They went live online, but as soon as it was safe to do so - they returned with clear, fabulous face masks to entertain live audiences once again. So whether it is a night out or brunch after a night out, a great way to celebrate Pride is by celebrating and supporting your local drag scene.

Volunteering in Your Community

When it comes to lending a helping hand, there are never enough volunteers and every organization out there can always use another pair. It’s never been easier to get out there and help either. A quick search online will help you find local organizations that need your help, so find something you’re passionate about and get out there. Feed the homeless, offer to help drive older people around, put in time at your local LGBTQ+ center, and beyond. The possibilities to help your community are abundant, so show how prideful you are by helping those in need.

Donate Some Funds

If your life is too busy, hectic, chaotic - whatever word you choose - and you can’t find the time to physically get out there in your community, then donate what you can monetarily. That helps too! Even the smallest amount can go a long way to helping the greater good.

Organize a Low Key Parade

When we think of Pride Parades, we think of extravagance and abundance but that doesn’t have to be the case all the time. You can organize something that’s scaled-down. In Long Beach, they did a small one in 2021, but they also did another fun one utilizing another mode of transportation; bikes! Yup, you and your crew could deck out your bikes, scooters, and even rollerblades and do a really cool Pride Ride on your own terms through your neighborhood.

Drink Local

In person, events are coming back and if you’re in a place where the bars are open again, hit them up. These establishments struggled for over a year and if you can and feel comfortable, hit them up and show them your support.

Pride Trivia Night

You can either do this at home or talk to a local bar or club owner to organize it but either way, trivia nights are always a great and fun idea. Only this one could be heavily LGBTQ+ themed with questions that span from Stonewall to ‘Queer as Folk’ and beyond.
